This week's Blog see's us delve into a Project Spotlight, highlighting what it's like to work with us
Client Brief
Our client approached KB Joinery Co. with a clear vision: to create a custom storage solution within the eaves of a bedroom, making the most of every inch of available space. The design needed to incorporate an open bookcase, display shelving, and hanging storage, all tailored to suit the unique angles of the room.
Design & Planning
We began with a detailed site survey, followed by a 3D model of the room to capture its geometry with precision. While various internal finishes were considered, the client opted for a painted external finish to complement the room’s soft aesthetic. To add warmth and elegance, polished brass hardware, including handles, knobs, and rails, was selected, paired with 2700K warm white LED lighting for a cosy, inviting glow.
Crafting Within the Eaves
Designing cabinetry within the eaves presents unique challenges. Accurate surveying was essential to ensure the furniture aligned perfectly with the sloping ceilings as any deviation would be immediately noticeable. Inspired by the look of freestanding furniture, the client preferred a relaxed finish, so we avoided a top scribe into the ceiling’s valley, where two roof planes meet at slightly different pitches.
Installation Considerations
Access to the room involved two flights of stairs and a narrow landing, so every component was designed for smooth delivery and installation without compromising quality or design integrity.
The Final Result
The completed space is a soft, feminine bedroom featuring ample storage for children’s clothing, books, and accessories. The installation includes:
Eight drawers
Long hanging space
Dedicated areas for shoes and folded items
The result is a premium-feeling, budget-conscious solution that’s both practical and timeless; perfectly tailored to the client’s needs and the character of the home.
